But I just learned the historical context of Revelation 3, and it blew my mind. Jesus was talking to the church in Laodicea. Nearby Hierapolis had hot springs (medicinal, healing). Nearby Colossae had cold waters (refreshing, life-giving). But Laodicea’s piped-in water was lukewarm—it was utterly useless and literally made people sick.
